I was lucky — I did my Win7 upgrade on the Inspiron just before Microsoft went medieval on policies. If you go the down the road of trying to max out the RAM on your Inspiron, let me now what inpsiron find out.

Dell Backup and Recovery. And did you changed the driver inf file as Graphhics wrote — I mean adding this string: Windows 10 must be run in boot mode without checking drivers signature 2.
Also, you do need the AHCI driver itself to modify an existing Win 7 installation — the inf file is basically a edll of instructions for an installer that provides information about the files it should look for during installation, not the software files themselves. Maybe some error message.
I mean to say Windows 8. Yeah unfortunately AMD made some edits to the driver download and so the legacy driver is no longer present as a direct link.
This model and Operating System is not supported by Dell. Unfortunately, the Xpress is too old to be supported under Windows
